Over the past weekend I reunited with three of my closest friends, who also happened to be my roommates during my senior year of college. We were reflecting on how crazy it is that 5 years have already passed by since we graduated (time flies!) and recounting the different reunions we’ve had so far. Honestly, it is pretty amazing that a group of four busy ladies have been able to come together two, three or even four times each year for a weekend of catching up. While we don’t always keep in touch as closely in between these get-togethers, these Dedicated Friendship Reunions (aka – DFR’s) are the glue that hold us together.
Benefits of a Dedicated Friendship Reunion (DFR) include:
**Sharing a longer chunk of time together where you can really catch up on everything.
**The reunions are fun to plan…Where will you go? What will you do?
**They eliminate the guilt factor. Instead of playing phone tag and trying to connect only to keep missing each other, you both know that even if life gets a little insane you’ll see each other soon.
**They allow you to note and admire the changes in each other. After 3-6 months stretches apart over the course of a few years, it’s been so cool to see how each of us has changed and grown. We are all in very different places than we were in 2011.
Do you have something similar to a DFR set up with your friends? How do you keep in touch with friends who are out of town?
In honor of the five year anniversary of our friendship, here is a timeline of our DFRs over the years…
That time we graduated – Iowa City, IA May 2011
That time we drank champagne and looked at wedding magazines all night – Chicago, IL November 2012
That time Bailey got married – Peoria, IL July 2013
That time Kassy wanted to hold everyone’s hand (oh no, wait that was every time) – Iowa City, IA November 2013
That time we wore snow pants to the Saint Paul Winter Carnival – Minneapolis, MN January 2014
That time we attempted to model (because what else can you really do while waiting in line for the bathroom) – Iowa City, IA September 2014
That time we tried to learn how to twerk, realized we were terrible at it, and really didn’t care because we were having so much fun – Des Moines, IA May 2015
That time we were kids in a candy store – Omaha, NE October 2015
Cheers to the fierce ones 😉 ,
