Happy Monday friends!  I’m sorry that I’ve been MIA this past week.  Truthfully, I ended up taking a much needed vacation to visit my sisters and parents in Iowa for a bit and do a little detox on blogging and work in general.  I cannot tell you how big of a difference it made!  When I returned home this past weekend, I felt completely refreshed and ready to get back at it – woot!

One thing that I’ve really been struggling with lately is how to use my time more wisely.  In terms of blogging, I realized that I have been stretching myself thin trying to keep up with sharing three well thought out, curated and inspiring posts each week.  Especially during the last couple months as I’ve been really trying to focus in on and build my wedding planning business, I have felt that some of the content I’ve been putting out here has not truly been my best (which is the worst feeling!).  So what’s the solution?  It’s time for some much needed changes!

In order to be able to create better, more in depth, raw posts that really resonate with YOU (my lovely readers), I will now be posting once a week on Thursdays.

Blogging has been such an exciting and challenging journey so far, and I’m so thankful to everyone who has followed along.  I hope that you continue to check in with me here on Ladyplanner, as I continue to share ideas, thoughts and inspiration for how we can create those meaningful “mini events” that add a bit of extraordinary to our day-to-day lives.  Please share any topics that you’re interested in below!

A Guide to Denver: My Favorite Fare & Refreshments

June 10, 2016

Emily Sacco Photography-42

As much as I love exploring and trying out new restaurants, I have a tendency to find a couple places I really love and stick with them when I’m out and about.  There are no surprises – everything tastes as wonderful as I remember it and it’s a great experience every time.  For today’s post, I’m so excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with my fellow Denver blogger and dear friend, Danielle from According To D, as we each share our top 5 favorite places to eat and drink in the city of Denver (yay!).

A few weeks ago we took over the Highlands area of Denver, dolled up in some of the latest outfits from Pinks – Straight from LA and with fresh hair and makeup and shimmering spray tans from Alchemy Beauty.  Needless to say, we both felt super cute and were ready for our close-up with the fabulous photographer Emily Sacco.  We spent the day exploring the Highlands and of course had to end by indulging in the best ice cream ever from Little Man (see below!).  Check out my top 5 restaurant recommendations for the next time you’re visiting the Mile High City below!

…And when you’re done reading head over to According To D to check out her top favorites too!

Favorite Breakfast Spot: Sassafrass American Eatery

This cozy and bright breakfast spot offers the best in comfort foods with a mainly Southern influence.  Start off with a spiced chai latte on a cold day, or go big with a Cap’n Crunch or Cinnamon Toast Crunch milkshake!  Indulge in classics like beignets, biscuits and gravy, fried green tomato benedict or shrimp and grits.  You can’t really go wrong with anything on this menu.

Favorite Coffee Spot: Black Eye Coffee (LoHi)

While there are two great locations for Black Eye Coffee, my go-to is definitely their shop in the LoHi area (right off of I-25).  It’s extremely easy to find parking and walk around to other local shops nearby if you’d like, or you can hunker down over multiple almond milk lattes or cortados for a full day’s work.  On warm days the store front opens up their “garage door” to let in the fresh air and sunshine, and don’t forget to grab one of their homemade pastries or macarons on your way out!  (For more of my favorite coffee shops, click here.)

Favorite Happy Hour Spot: Avanti F&B

With a sprawling rooftop bar that overlooks the city, and comfy furniture to match, Avanti is my favorite place to hang out for an extended happy hour.  The cocktails are delicious, and Avanti is a collective eatery space with your pick of seven different markets and food trucks (so pretty much an adult food hall).  Enough said!

Favorite Dinner Spot: Pizzeria Locale

Inspired by Naples, Italy, Pizzeria Locale transports you over to Europe with some of the best italian style pizza you’ll find in the states.  The waiters look dapper dressed up in their suits and ties, and the enormous wood-fired oven in the center of the restaurant cooks your pizza quickly to perfection.  As a Chicagoan with hard-core deep dish roots, Pizzeria Locale brought me over to the thin side.

Favorite Dessert Spot: Little Man Ice Cream

Little Man is one of those spots that you bring all of your friends and family to when they’re visiting from out of town.  Seriously – go now if you can!!  The ice cream is served out of a 28-foot cream can and there is the cutest patio right next door where you can enjoy your treat, listen to some live music or even watch an outdoor movie on occasion.  Don’t be discouraged by the long lines – it’s worth the wait!  (Try the Salted Oreo per my recommendation 😉 )

Afternoon Tea at The Brown Palace

What’s a girl to do when three of her best friends come into town?  Why take them to tea of course!  …But seriously, I have been DYING to go to high tea at The Brown Palace ever since I moved to Denver.  On Friday afternoon, Mel, Kassy, Bailey and I got ourselves all dolled up and headed downtown for a special afternoon.

When we arrived, we took in the luxurious furniture and gorgeous architecture, before being seated promptly to review our tea options.  We all selected the “Signature Tea” package, which included our choice of tea, along with pastries, scones, tea sandwiches and English Devonshire cream.  Everything tasted amazing, but I think the warm lemon poppyseed scone topped with Devonshire cream and berry jam was my absolute favorite.

Each of us tried a different tea and all took turns tasting each other’s.  The teas are bottomless, so you and your other guests can sip on a cup of each other’s if you prefer!  I opted for the herbal chai with rooibos and ginger, but ended up liking Mel’s black chai a little bit better.

In the background a gentleman played Disney songs and other childhood favorites on the piano to indulge a little girl who was there celebrating her birthday.  I couldn’t help but hum along to “My Favorite Things” as I enjoyed the magical ambiance of The Brown Palace and the company of a few wonderful friends.

Have you ever experience an English tea time?  What’s your favorite tea to sip on in the Summertime?

Photography by Emily Sacco Photography.

Happy June 1st!  Summer is just around the corner and I couldn’t be more excited for colorful outfits, hiking, lounging by the pool and wedding season!  Last Thursday I had the opportunity to collaborate with one of my friends and fellow Denver bloggers on a fun photo shoot in downtown Denver.  The photos and post about each of our favorite places in Denver will go live next Friday (yay!), but in the meantime I wanted to share the photo above as sneak peek since I thought it was so fitting for this post.  What’s better in the summertime than a carefree day snacking on a delicious ice cream cone?  😉

Here’s my Summer bucket list – what’s on yours???

*Spend a day reading & relaxing by the pool

*Hike a 14-er

*Plan several 1 or 2 day trips throughout Colorado – Vail & Aspen are scheduled for June!

*Go to an outdoor movie in the park

*Host a bonfire night & make s’mores

*Make homemade ice cream

*Go paddle-boarding

*Don’t use technology for 3 days straight

*Camp under the stars

*Visit the Boulder & Denver farmer’s markets
